Thinking Out Loud #44

in Everyday, Thinking Out Loud on 02/25/16

Hey hey! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! This week feels a little calmer than the last few, though Wednesdays are always a little bit crazy for me. Still, there’s a lot going on, so I have a lot of thoughts floating around my head… and written on Post-Its. ? As always, thanks to Amanda for the chance to share all those with you.

1.) I appreciate all your comments on Tuesday’s post! It’s always nice to hear that I’m not the only one who thinks a certain way or struggles with a particular thing. And while I’m at it, thanks for all your comments ever. I get so freaking happy every time I get an email notification about comments. So happy. Y’all are the best.

2.) Remember how I said the weather was lovely this weekend? It was lovely until Tuesday. And then we got all the wind, sideways snow, and accumulation of about 3 inches yesterday. It seems like a weird fluke and today is back to normal-ish. But really. Yesterday was unnecessary.

3.) I learned what the lowercase Greek Xi looks like in econ on Tuesday.

Most of the class just figured the teacher just wanted to use a different variable and so he threw a squiggly up on the board. Nope. Upon questioning, he explained it was an actual Greek letter. The disbelief in the room was palpable.

4.) I live with three other girls. I would just like to say that while I’ve never been a guy, possibly the best thing about it is that you don’t find long hairs literally everywhere. All four of us have thick, healthy hair, and it gets all over the place. Ugh.

5.) I ate at XOCO on Tuesday night and somehow didn’t take any pictures. I had the Baja Chicken Torta and about 75% of an order of chips and salsa. The sandwich was tasty, but a little slim on the toppings for the amount of bread. The bread was good, though! And the chips and salsa were excellent. I forgot how much I love chips and salsa. ?

6.) Care packages are a great way to turn around a less-than-fabulous day.

My grandparents are awesome. (And yesterday really wasn’t bad. Just long and crazy and I got a lot of snow in my eyes.)

7.) I’ve had a lot of later nights recently, just as a result of having so much stuff to do. I’m not a fan. However, I am always a fan of late-night snacks and I usually have a few.

My last one yesterday was a piece of Silver Hills Bakery toast slathered in melty Wild Friends Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter. It was a good choice. But when is nut butter not a good choice?

(Hint: never.)

😉

Have a fantastic Thursday!

Do you like Mexican food? Love. It.

What’s your favorite late-night snack?

Anything else I should know?

I buy a new jar of peanut butter yesterday and rice cakes with creamy, natural and delicious peanut butter will be my late-night snack☺️ I just prefer rice cakes over bread because it’s so crunchy and light☺️

Oooh it’s been a long time since I’ve had rice cakes, but I love them, too!

YES to no long hairs everywhere when you live with a guy. So gross - though, trust me, sometimes I’d prefer the long hairs. Guys who shave their faces tend to leave a lovely dusting in the bathroom sink..

      Hahaha well I guess nobody’s perfect 😉

Sour Patch Kids are the bomb! Your grandparents picked out some great stuff. I am a big fan of Mexican food. I love burritos stuffed with guacamole and bleak beans. The bigger the better. I hope weather turns around for the weekend. Snow In the eyes is never fun

I share my bathroom with two of my residents, and they both have hair that falls below their waste it is that long. Gorgeous hair, absolutely strong, stunning, and luscious. But I’ll be damned- it gets EVERYWHERE! Sometimes, I look at the towel and get so confused to see long black strands! I feel your pain. I get hair wrapped in my fingers sometimes and it is the worst.

I JUST REALIZED I HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO YOUR EMAIL. I am the worst. Expect a response asap.

    Mexican food: absolute yes
Late night snack: ice cream probably
Anything you should know: you’re pretty awesome, Ellen.

Haha that sounds exactly right. Long, dark hair is extra noticeable, too!
Noooo worries about the email. You’re totally fine!
Ice cream and Mexican food are pretty freaking incredible. 🙂
      Awww thanks, Julia!

Ooooomigosh. I can’t deal with long hairs getting everywhere, especially when they’re wet — totally skeeves me out. And that’s seriously a sweeeeeeeet care package. Getting anything (besides bills) in the mail is always so exciting. Even if it’s something you just ordered yourself and were expecting 😀

Ick. Wet hair is the worst. And YES to mail. I love mail ❤️

Hmm… Apple + peanut butter or yogurt + something crunchy. 🙂

Noooo, sorry about the snow! I get way too excited every time there’s a fluke spring-like day. Then it turns back to winter…. Also, love your comment about the Greek letter. I actually studied ancient Greek in college, so it seems totally normal to me and forget that it’s absolutely a crazy squiggle

    • EllenSlater says

      February 26, 2016 at 9:29 pm

It’s so cool you studied Greek! I only ever use the letters in math, but I bet it’s fascinating as an actual language!

At the start of my maths degree we were made to learn the Greek alphabet for occasions like this!

Yes to Mexican (minus the cheese) xx

Oh, wait. Nut butter is my fave.
Ooooh I’ve never tried their GF, but I’m not opposed. I’ll have to see if I can find it!

I live in my sorority house, so I totally hear you on the long hairs everywhere! I have had to learn to ignore it, otherwise I would let my crazy OCD tendencies take over and be vacuuming 3 times a day! I like having some cereal for a late night snack 🙂

    • EllenSlater says

      February 26, 2016 at 9:32 pm

I think I plowed through half a box of cereal last night as a late-night snack ? So addictive!

I totally feel you on the long hair issue. Both my sister and I have long hair AND we have long haired dogs. When I first found out I had coeliac disease and switched to a gluten free diet my hair fell out (kind of like a new mom’s does after giving birth because of the shock) and at the same time my sister was on chemo drugs for an autoimmune kitchen and I felt like I was CONSTANTLY vacuuming up hair. SO gross.

I am totally jealous of your care package from your grandparents! Yum!

I had no idea that happens when you switch diets! That’s crazy!
