Five Friday Favorites 11/27/15

Happy Friday! Did you have a good week? A good Thanksgiving? Any big plans for the weekend? I wanna know! I’m planning to enjoy a weekend of baking and hockey and college football and family time before I head back to school and get in full finals-studying mode. I’m pretty excited for the post-finals Christmas break right now. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s been a great week; let’s talk about some of the reasons why!

  • Going out for Thanksgiving

Honestly, my meal-time pictures aren’t that impressive since I was busy with the eating and conversing. However, I have to say it was nice to go to a restaurant for Thanksgiving rather than eat a big meal at someone’s house. Why? Well, we were all really relaxed. No one was juggling five casseroles in the kitchen and checking the turkey. No one had to do dishes. We just sat down and talked. Also, as someone who isn’t huge on classic Thanksgiving fare, it was nice to have some other options at the buffet. In addition to three types of salad, I had cod with cream sauce, smoked salmon, green beans with bacon, buttery sweet potatoes, a roll, and some deviled eggs. Oh, and a piece of carrot cake and half a piece of turtle cheesecake. Traditional? Nope. Delicious? Yep.

  • Canada Dry Diet Cranberry Ginger Ale

My embarrassing-ish seasonal addiction. I had this for the first time a few Christmas Eves ago at my grandparents’ house and now I seriously stock up on it when I see it. I got really excited on Wednesday night when I swung by the grocery store and found it.

  • Pre-Thanksgiving sales

I don’t relish the craziness of Black Friday the way a lot of people do. Sure, I’ll maybe go out shopping at a reasonable hour just to look around or pick up a couple things, but waiting in long lines and wading through enormous crowds don’t do much for me. On Wednesday, there were still tons of sales, though! Since everyone is preparing for the holiday, the crowds are pretty minimal and you can still get in lots of shopping. I got a bunch of clothes and gifts for somewhere between 40 and 60 percent off and it was awesome.

  • Seeing Uncle John

My grandpa’s brother came out to Thanksgiving lunch with us, and it was the first time I’ve seen him since last Thanksgiving. Well, a lot happens in a year, so I loved catching up with him. He’s fun to talk to and smart and caring and quick-witted, and I certainly hope it’s not a year until the next time I see him.

  • Super thoughtful friends

As I think we all know, I had three weeks of midterm studying that just ended. It wasn’t the most fun period of time. A group of my high school friends was aware of my stress and wanted to brighten some of my studying days. So, they put together this incredible care package.

And then they had some trouble with the shipping, so one of them left it on the porch (thanks, Sanjana!) while I was out shopping with my mom on Wednesday night and I could collect it before finals. Thanks, guys. You’re amazing.

And that’s all for me this week! Have a wonderful weekend!

If you celebrate, how was Thanksgiving?

What’s your favorite seasonal flavor?

What are you loving this week?

Thanksgiving was a lot more low-key than usual as my brother just moved out-of-state and had to work (and my extended family is spread out over the country). I did enjoy time with my parents eating yummy comfort food, taking a (rare) nap, and watching movies.

So thankful for being able to take a few days off work!

Ooh…they gave you Maleficent! I love that movie! Anyway, that was so sweet of your friends!

We prefer non-traditional Thanksgiving fare as well, and what we really wanted was pizza from Papa John’s, but they were closed, so we decided to have Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. So we kind of get two Thanksgivings, which is fine by me! 😄

My favorite seasonal flavor used to be pumpkin, but right now, my feelings for pumpkin are cooling a bit and I’m having a thing with anything sweet potato, pomegranate or caramel. Not necessarily together. Is that seasonal?

I’m a fan of the pre-Thanksgiving sales as well! There’s no way I’d dare to venture out on Friday for with all the crazy Black Friday deals, but I snagged some awesome discounts online! Good luck with finals! <3

That’s sooo sweet of your friends to send you that little care package. I remember when my mom used to send them to me in college - they made my day! :) Means so much to have others think of you. My favorite seasonal flavor is now cranberry, after eating loads of fresh ones on Thanksgiving!
