My Uncommon Everyday

Finding the delicious adventure in daily life

March 15, 2018

Baby Face Forever

Happiest of Thursdays to you! How’s your week going? Mine has kind of slipped away, but so that’s goes. I was going to write something for you on Tuesday and then the unthinkable happened: my day got weirdly busy.

Well, first, I legitimately forgot that I had Girls on the Run coaching at 3:30, so with getting there and back and walking Pippa, my usual blog time was cut a little bit short. No big deal. But the morning filled up when I decided to start selling old stuff.

Selling (Old) Stampin’ Up!

I told you last week about my quest to sell old clothes (it’s sort of working - my dad suggested I drop my prices and he was right, as usual). This week, I started cleaning out my parents’ basement. My mom has old crafting supplies and collectibles down there, and there are also a ton of not-good-for-moving-or-shipping boxes that have no use. I was tasked with getting rid of that stuff. My mom suggested I throw it away, and I was like, “I think I’ll try to sell it first.”

What a decision. I started posting underpriced craft stuff in a Facebook group and the people in there hopped on it instantly. I couldn’t post fast enough. I spent the morning posting and replying to their inquiries, did my afternoon commitments, and figured out the Paypal and shipping stuff after dinner. Yesterday, I got more shipping materials and took all that stuff to the post office. Easy-peasy, box of stuff out of our house.

I also learned at the post office that I way undercharged for shipping, despite weighing some of the packages to come up with estimates. Cool. I think that was about 25% of what I thought I made, money-wise. Oops. Live and learn.

Now I’m just trying to get into a Boyd’s Bears buy/sell group on Facebook so I can sell that giant tub of stuff. Will clean out your basement for hire.

Weird Dog Walks

{Throwback to last summer when everything was green and warm and my dog liked walking to the park}

Last weekend, my neighbor’s son was moving out of their house. It was pretty nice out and we were doing laundry (Pippa really hates our washer), so we let Pippa sit outside for a lot of the weekend. Something happened to spook her, and we have no idea what, but for the first half of the week, the dog put her tail down every time we went outside and tried to drag me back home.

When we got home, she always wanted to sit outside on her lead in the yard, despite not wanting to walk.

Magically, she’s better as of Tuesday. No idea what it was. She will happily trot along in the bitter cold that is occurring around the end of a fairly mild winter. Weirdo.

Baby Face Birthday

It’s my birthday. I’m 22. On a weekly basis, I’m mistaken for a high schooler.

{And also throwback to the warmth of Milan in October}

It’s fine. We’ve talked about it. I’m over it. One day I’ll be grateful and all that.

Still, this week, the athletic director and custodian at my mom’s high school asked if I go there. Someone new asks me whenever I’m there, just about. Mostly, I’m offended because I kind of hope they’d recognize me if I did. I proctored an SAT there last week. You can’t do that if you’re in high school.

Also, I was running with a little girl at Girls on the Run on Tuesday, and the conversation went something like:

Me: What grade are you in?

Her: “I’m in fourth grade, but everyone thinks I’m in second.”

Me: “That’s okay. Everyone thinks I’m in high school.”

Her: “You’re not?”

So, I look young even to the young ones. I definitely thought I could pass for the same age as the young teacher coaches, but nope.

Anyway, the birthday festivities are less extravagant than last year, but I’m completely okay with a low-key birthday. Today’s plans include a stupid early cycling class (my mom agreed to go with me - what a real friend), looking at apartment furniture and decorative stuff, shopping, getting my mom to paint my nails because they last longer when not-me paints them, happy hour dinner with my parents, and watching some combination of hockey and March Madness. But mostly hockey because Ohio State plays San Diego State while we’ll be at dinner and the Blue Jackets are fighting for their playoff spot.

The weekend looks like probably going to the sneak peek opening of Food Hall, teaching yoga on Sunday, and lots of chill time. I believe it’s supposed to be rather unpleasant in terms of weather here, so… mostly indoor activities. But it’s birthday weekend!

Hope you have a lovely weekend, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Talk to you next week!

Your turn:

Do you accumulate stuff or are you good about getting rid of it as it falls into disuse?

Do you look your age?

What does your ideal birthday look like? What’s for dessert?

    HAPPPPPPPYYYYYYY BIIIIRRRTTHHHHHDDDAAAYYYY!
At least yuou are selling stuff. I always have delusions of grandeur with that and ultimately am l like F it and donate things. Like a signed cardiology textbook.
But I don’t need it bc my heart is made of stone anyway.

LOL I’ve been donating things too. When I realized how stupid expensive shipping is, I had a hard time justifying my $2 item with $15 shipping. Into the trash/donation it goes!
I think you meant “gold” not “stone”. Typo. Easy mistake ❤️

Having moved to our condo 6 1/2 years ago, the auction took care of a lot of our “stuff”. Just this past Tuesday we cleaned file drawers and put 2 bags of shredded stuff and 1 bag of generic stuff into trash can before the trash guy came. About twice a year I donate both men’s and women’s clothing to Harmony House, a shelter. If it is something quite nice (but too small) I donate to “What Goes Round”, a more upscale store. It takes its name from the ” Carrousel”. I am not savvy at selling things.
We are pretty certain that when our children (or grandchildren) need to clean out our remaining “stuff”, they will declare “What were they thinking?”

I am afraid that I look my age. For birthday dinner, we just go someplace yummy.

I think donating is more efficient than selling. I’ve been taking things to the post office that I’m getting $2 for. Not worth it.

Happy birthday! Hope you have a great day/weekend! Birthday dessert = chocolate cake. 🙂

Happy birthday!!! And I can sooooo relate to the baby face life. As a freshman in college, a salesperson at Sports Authority asked if I ran for my middle school’s track team…and being an authority figure as a teaching assistant has def been a little more challenging since I look like a college freshman! But I know I’ll appreciate it one day…

Hahaha I proctor SATs and ACTs for a little extra money, and the students always look a little surprised when I don’t sit down to take the test, but start reading the instructions out loud.

    Happy belated birthday, girl!!

I totally feel you - people always think I’m a high schooler and I’m 25… but hopefully that means when I’m 75 they’ll think I’m much younger 😂

Same, girl. Let the young looks continue in the future!
